Arsenal have signed Manchester United academy forward James Scanlon, 19, with the teenager completing his move to north London after progressing through the Red Devils’ youth ranks.

Scanlon had been linked with a switch to the Gunners earlier in the summer, and the deal has now been confirmed. Speaking on his arrival, the forward said: “It’s a pleasure to be here, I can’t wait to get started. I’ve been waiting to get this over the line, so I’m buzzing to be here.”

He added: “You can see that everyone here is hungrier for more, hungrier to get better and I think that’s something I believe I can add to and want to be a part of as well. I like to score goals, assist, so hopefully I can excite players who watch me. I’m looking forward to playing, representing the badge, improving and hopefully showing people what I can do.”

Scanlon departed Old Trafford having become a regular for United’s under-21 side, before a loan spell at Swindon Town where he scored once in six appearances.

The move could be followed swiftly by another arrival from United, with Arsenal also reported to be interested in Habeeb Ogunneye, who spent last season on loan at Newport County.

Scanlon’s signing is part of a broader push by Arsenal to strengthen their academy pipeline. Sixteen-year-old England youth international striker Vincent Joseph has joined from Liverpool, with a tribunal set to determine the transfer fee. Mylo Bernard has arrived from Crystal Palace, Elijah Upson has crossed north London from Tottenham, and Axel Donczew is expected to follow from Cardiff City after an impressive season in Wales.

Igor Tyjon has also been recruited from Blackburn Rovers. The youngster said: “It feels amazing. I’ve waited a long time for this and I can’t wait to get started. Who doesn’t want to join the champions? The pathway, the staff, the players, everything about it, it’s just top.”
