Arsenal have been identified as potential suitors for Mason Greenwood, according to French outlet L’Equipe, with Marseille willing to sell the 24-year-old striker for approximately €80m (£69.3m) this summer to satisfy Financial Fair Play obligations. Tottenham, meanwhile, have no interest in bringing Greenwood to north London despite the arrival of Roberto De Zerbi as manager.

Greenwood, who joined Marseille from Manchester United in 2024, remains under contract at the French club until 2029 but has attracted significant attention following a prolific run of form — 48 goals in 81 appearances for the Ligue 1 side. Mikel Arteta is understood to be seeking reinforcements in attack ahead of next season, with Julian Alvarez also previously linked with a move to the Emirates.

Roma have also been credited with interest in Greenwood, alongside the initial reports connecting Tottenham to a move. However, Mirror Football understands Spurs have zero appetite for a deal, despite De Zerbi having managed Greenwood at Marseille last season.

De Zerbi faced criticism from Tottenham supporters ahead of his appointment over comments he made in defence of Greenwood during his time in France. The Italian had said he felt “sad” for the player and described him as “a good lad” who had “paid in a strong way for what happened.” Greenwood was charged with attempted rape and controlling and coercive behaviour before those charges were dropped.

Addressing the backlash at his Spurs unveiling, De Zerbi was clear about his own values: “I have always been against — always — any type of violence, especially against women. But not only violence — even just sexist jokes or other sexist behaviours. I have a daughter and I’m directly affected by it.”

Greenwood came through Manchester United’s academy and scored 35 goals in 129 appearances for the club before a loan spell at Getafe preceded his permanent departure to Marseille. Should Arsenal firm up their interest and meet Marseille’s valuation, it would represent one of the more contentious transfers of the summer window.
