Kimi Antonelli delivered a commanding performance around the streets of Monte Carlo on Sunday to win the 2026 Monaco Grand Prix, his fifth consecutive victory of the Formula 1 season and his first at the principality’s iconic circuit.

The 19-year-old Italian, driving for Mercedes, converted pole position into a lights-to-flag win and has now stretched his drivers’ championship lead to 66 points. Seven-time champion Lewis Hamilton, who finished second, has moved ahead of Antonelli’s teammate George Russell into second place in the standings.

The celebrations that followed were as memorable as the race itself. As the Mercedes squad gathered for the traditional post-victory photograph, team members began pushing colleagues into the harbour — including Antonelli’s father, Marco. Before anyone could get to him, Antonelli took matters into his own hands and launched himself into the marina.

The moment quickly went viral, with fans on Reddit and X competing to produce the best reaction. “Bro auditioning for Aquaman,” one user posted on X, while another wrote: “He won the most chaotic Monaco GP just to face the final boss: the Mediterranean Sea.” One Reddit commenter noted the dedication of a photographer already positioned underwater in a waterproof housing, ready to capture the plunge. “That first picture is going to be one for the books if he gets the WDC,” the commenter added.

Antonelli’s run of victories now spans China, Japan, Miami, Canada and Monaco — five consecutive grands prix that have turned what began as a promising debut season into a genuine title charge. The scale of his championship advantage at this stage of the year underlines how completely the teenager has adapted to the demands of Formula 1’s top machinery.

There is little time to dry off. The season moves to Barcelona for the Spanish Grand Prix, the seventh round of the year and the second stop on the European leg of the calendar, scheduled for 12-14 June at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.
