Létang summoned by LFP after threatening to boycott match refereed by Wattellier

Olivier Létang is in turmoil. The LOSC president has been summoned by the LFP’s disciplinary commission following his verbal and written outbursts after the 2-2 draw conceded against PSG on August 28, according to information revealed Tuesday by L’Équipe.

It was the National Ethics Council (CNE) that initiated the proceedings, relying on the supplementary report written by the match referee, Monsieur Wattellier. This report describes a Létang contesting the added time in the stadium corridors, shouting “scandal” and claiming that “it was always the same”.

The Lille executive did not stop there. Following the final whistle, he sent a first message to Anthony Gautier, national director of refereeing: “I had warned you! This is shameful!” Then, during the night, a second email was sent, this time copying the LFP and FFF leadership, to denounce “the carelessness and lack of discernment in the choice of referees”.

The threat formulated in this latter message is the one that could cost him the most. Létang writes that if Wattellier “were to be appointed again for a match of our club, we reserve the right not to show up or not to organize the match”. The exchanges between the Lille president and the CNE subsequently continued for several days.

The situation is all the more delicate for Létang as this is not his first misstep: last season, he had already received a two-month suspension for remarks of a similar nature. A repeat offense that could significantly increase the forthcoming sanction.

On the pitch, LOSC had nonetheless made a solid start to the season, with victories at Angers (0-2) and at Toulouse (0-1) surrounding this draw snatched by PSG late in the match. It is therefore off the field that problems are now accumulating for the northern club.
