Fernando Alonso turned heads on the streets of Monte Carlo this week, driving a Porsche 918 Spyder through the principality as it prepares to host the Monaco Grand Prix from 5-7 June. The sighting adds another chapter to the two-time Formula 1 world champion’s well-documented life as a hypercar collector.

The 918 Spyder, launched in 2013, is a mid-engine plug-in hybrid built around a 4.6-litre V8 producing 599 horsepower, supplemented by twin electric motors that contribute a further 282 horsepower. Only 918 units were ever made, and the model holds the distinction of being the first production road car to lap the Nürburgring in under seven minutes. Current market valuations place examples between €1.8 million and €3 million.

Reaction on social media was swift. “This guy has the Gran Turismo garage in Monaco,” one user wrote on X. Another added: “I’m curious how many garages he rents out for the whole collection fleet he’s got. What a f***ing legend.”

The 918 Spyder slots into a collection that reportedly includes the other two members of the so-called Holy Trinity of 2010s hypercars — a McLaren P1 and a LaFerrari — alongside a one-of-one Pagani Zonda 760 and a Mercedes-Benz CLK GTR Strassenversion. As an Aston Martin works driver, Alonso also owns several cars from the British manufacturer, among them a bespoke Valkyrie, a Valiant, a DBX 707, and a DBX S.

The Monaco appearance comes at a difficult moment in Alonso’s racing career. The Aston Martin F1 team has endured a troubled start to the 2026 season, and the Spaniard currently sits 22nd in the drivers’ championship without a single point, one place behind team-mate Lance Stroll, who is also yet to score.
