Alonso cruises Monaco streets in Nissan GT-R as Aston Martin struggles mount
Fernando Alonso was spotted driving a Nissan GT-R Black Edition through Monte Carlo, drawing admiration for his extraordinary car collection. The sighting comes amid a difficult 2026 F1 season that has left the two-time champion 18th in the drivers' standings with a single point.
Fernando Alonso turned heads on the streets of Monaco this week, photographed behind the wheel of a Nissan GT-R Black Edition — the latest addition to a car collection that fans have described as one of the finest on the Formula 1 grid.
The GT-R Black Edition is powered by a hand-built, twin-turbocharged 3.8-litre V6 producing 565 bhp and 467 lb-ft of torque, with all-wheel drive and a rear-mounted transaxle for weight distribution. A bespoke carbon fibre rear spoiler completes the package, and the car dispatches 0–62 mph in as little as 2.7 seconds.
Fan reaction to footage of the 44-year-old Spaniard was swift and enthusiastic. “This gentleman’s car collection makes absolutely no sense; there isn’t a single ugly one,” wrote one viewer, while another called his garage “an ode to the engine.” A third added: “He has the best garage on the grid.”
Alonso’s collection is, by any measure, remarkable. Alongside the GT-R, he is regularly seen in his Aston Martin DBX707 SUV and owns a bespoke Valkyrie — the approximately £2.7 million hypercar co-designed by Adrian Newey — as well as a recently delivered Valiant. Other reported highlights include a Ferrari 599 GTB Alonso Edition, a Ferrari 812 Competizione, a McLaren P1, a Mercedes-Benz CLK GTR, a Pagani Zonda 760 Roadster Diamante Verde, a Lancia Delta HF Integrale Evoluzione Martini 6, and a Ford GT Heritage Edition.
The Monaco sighting offers a rare moment of colour in what has otherwise been a bleak 2026 campaign for Alonso and Aston Martin. The team entered the season with considerable optimism, having secured a new power unit partnership with Honda and fielded its first car developed under Newey’s technical leadership. Those expectations have not been met. Persistent mechanical problems have hampered the squad throughout, and Alonso currently sits 18th in the drivers’ championship with just one point to his name.
