Alan Smith backs Arsenal to sell Martinelli, Jesus and White in summer title-winning squad overhaul

Former Arsenal striker Alan Smith has urged the club to sell Gabriel Martinelli, Gabriel Jesus and Ben White this summer, backing a significant rebuild as the Gunners prepare to defend their first Premier League title in over two decades.
Arteta’s side finished seven points clear of Manchester City to claim the championship last season, but the Spaniard is expected to reshape his squad rather than stand pat. Several established first-team players have been linked with exits, including the three Smith singled out, as well as Belgian winger Leandro Trossard.
“Looking at Gabriel Martinelli, it’s been a frustrating few years for him,” Smith told Metro. “Ben White, yeah, again, I’m sure there’s defenders coming to the club so he might feel like it’s time to go. I can see Gabriel Jesus going as well, certainly if Arsenal buy another striker, which it looks like they’re trying to do. I think he would be the first one that they would try and offload.”
The one player Smith was emphatic about keeping is Trossard. “The only one from that list I wouldn’t want to see go is Leandro Trossard. I think he’s had a great season. He can score important goals and he’s a very clever player, versatile as well. He’s mainly played on the left, but he can come inside. He’s a big fan favourite as well.”
On the incomings side, Arsenal are reportedly pursuing Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers following his standout campaign, and remain linked with Atletico Madrid striker Julian Alvarez. The club have also reportedly agreed personal terms with Roma midfielder Manu Kone, though formal talks with the Italian club are yet to begin. Roma are said to be seeking around 50 million euros (£43m) for the 23-year-old.
Arsenal’s fixture list for the 2026/27 Premier League season is due to be released on Friday.
