Arda Güler closes in on Real Madrid renewal but contract length remains disputed
Arda Güler has reportedly agreed a new contract with Real Madrid, though sources conflict over whether the deal runs until 2031 or 2032. No official club announcement has confirmed the terms or the salary increase said to accompany the extension.
Arda Güler is set to extend his stay at Real Madrid, according to multiple reports, but a key detail — the precise expiry date of his new deal — remains unresolved as accounts differ between 2031 and 2032.
Anadolu Agency, citing Madrid-based sports daily AS, reported on Monday 5 October that the 21-year-old Türkiye international had agreed a two-year extension to his current contract, which runs until 2029, pushing the new expiry to 2031. A separate summary of a post by transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano, however, gave 2032 as the new end date. Neither version has been confirmed by an official Real Madrid announcement.
The discrepancy is more than a minor clerical difference. A 2031 expiry describes a straight two-year extension, while 2032 would represent a longer commitment. The available reporting does not clarify whether the gap reflects different terms being discussed or a straightforward error in one of the accounts.
Both reports agree that the renewal includes a salary increase, reflecting Güler’s growing importance to the squad. Under manager José Mourinho, the midfielder has started five matches so far this season. Last season he made 40 starts, scored six goals and registered a team-high 14 assists — figures that help explain why the club is moving to secure his future.
Güler joined Real Madrid from Fenerbahçe in 2023 and is now in his fourth season at the club. Transfermarkt reportedly raised his market value from €90 million to €100 million following news of the renewal talks, though that valuation is independent of the contract terms themselves.
Mourinho has spoken publicly about Güler’s technical quality, vision, decision-making and creativity, and has pointed to further development as a realistic expectation. The reported renewal fits a broader pattern at Madrid, where the club has also moved to tie down key midfielders such as Aurélien Tchouaméni through a deal reportedly running to 2031, and has sought to retain leading young talents including Vinícius Júnior.
Until Real Madrid issue a formal confirmation, the length of Güler’s new contract — and the precise terms of his salary increase — remain reported rather than established facts.
