Michael Taliadoros, the AFC Wimbledon superfan and matchday commentator who had attended every one of the club’s first-team matches since 6 May 1989, died suddenly, the League One club announced. He was 56 years old and had watched 2,010 consecutive Wimbledon matches — a run spanning nearly four decades.

Known affectionately as MikeyT at Plough Lane, Taliadoros was celebrated not only for his extraordinary dedication but for his near-photographic memory of the matches he attended. He could recall the score and exact date of every game he had ever seen. That encyclopaedic knowledge eventually led him to a formal role at the club as matchday commentator and stadium announcer, a position he treasured.

His unbroken run survived obstacles that would have defeated most fans. When AFC Wimbledon were controversially relocated to Milton Keynes — becoming MK Dons — Taliadoros followed regardless. When the Covid-19 pandemic forced matches behind closed doors, his commentator’s accreditation allowed him to remain inside the stadium and keep the streak alive.

In an interview conducted at the start of the current season, Taliadoros reflected on how the run had begun almost by accident. “The run started away to Charlton on May 6 1989,” he said. “The next season was our centenary year, so that summer a few of us said we’re going to try and do every game, and it snowballed from there really.”

He described missing the final Wimbledon match before that streak only because he had not yet received his first pay packet after leaving college. Once he had, he said, “there was no stopping me.”

Taliadoros had just celebrated his 56th birthday and told the Mirror in August that he had no intention of stopping. His commentary from Wimbledon’s late victory over rivals MK Dons went viral in 2024, bringing his voice to a global audience for the first time.

AFC Wimbledon paid tribute in a club statement: “The memories he has given and shared with us will last for many years to come, and we will never forget the dedication he gave to his roles as commentator and stadium announcer. We send our deepest condolences to Mikey’s family and friends at this difficult time. Rest in peace Mikey, a Wimbledon legend in every sense.”
