AC Milan move for Ederson after Manchester United's deal collapses at medical stage
Manchester United's pursuit of Atalanta midfielder Ederson has fallen apart after the 27-year-old had already undergone a medical. Ruben Amorim's AC Milan have now made contact with Atalanta and are ready to sign the Brazilian themselves.
AC Milan have moved to sign Atalanta midfielder Ederson after Manchester United’s deal for the Brazilian collapsed at the final hurdle, with the 27-year-old having already completed a medical before the agreement fell through.
The move to Old Trafford had been widely expected, but United ultimately cancelled the transfer late in the process, leaving Ederson in an uncertain position having anticipated a departure from Bergamo. Milan, managed by former United head coach Ruben Amorim, have since made direct contact with Atalanta to explore a deal, according to Calciomercato.
Amorim is reportedly looking to reshape Milan’s midfield and has shifted the club’s recruitment focus toward proven Serie A talent. Ederson, who had been away on international duty with Brazil at the World Cup, fits that profile having established himself as one of the standout midfielders in Italian football in recent seasons.
Milan have already demonstrated significant ambition in the transfer window, securing the signing of PSG striker Goncalo Ramos for a club-record fee of around £60 million. Adding Ederson would further strengthen Amorim’s squad as he looks to make an immediate impact at the San Siro.
The situation carries an added subplot: Milan and United are scheduled to meet in a pre-season fixture in Poland on 15 August, which would give Amorim the opportunity to face his former club — potentially with a player United themselves came close to signing.
Amorim, who was sacked by United in January after a 14-month tenure, addressed his time at Old Trafford at his first Milan press conference. “I didn’t have the opportunity — and I am sorry for that — to say something to the Manchester United fans at the moment, but I am really proud to have been their coach for a year,” he said. “I learn a lot. I did some mistakes. I will try to change. I think I will be better.”
