Morocco has emerged as the main rival to the Santiago Bernabéu to host the 2030 FIFA World Cup final, according to multiple sources including Spanish media The Objective. FIFA has not yet designated the stadium to host the tournament’s final match, which will be co-organized by Spain, Portugal and Morocco.

The Moroccan project would benefit from considerable support: Donald Trump, FIFA president Gianni Infantino, as well as Qatar and Saudi Arabia are reportedly among its backers. In Spain, this configuration is causing concern for the Spanish Football Federation, which fears according to Cadena COPE a direct intervention by the American president in favor of Rabat, given the close ties between Washington and Morocco.

These concerns were fueled by an episode that occurred during the 2026 World Cup: Donald Trump had personally contacted Gianni Infantino regarding the Folarin Balogun case, an American striker suspended before a United States match. The exchange highlighted the influence the American president is capable of exerting behind the scenes at the global governing body.

Morocco’s most tangible asset remains the future Grand Stade Hassan II in Casablanca, announced to have 115,000 seats. This capacity would make it one of the largest sports venues in the world and would allow it to seriously rival the Bernabéu, which until now has been presented as the natural candidate by the Spanish press. The final decision belongs to FIFA, which has not yet communicated a timeline for this designation.
