Zidane makes press conference debut and promises autograph to Turkish journalist
On the eve of France's Nations League match against Turkey, Zinédine Zidane held his first press conference as France manager. A Turkish journalist asked him to sign a book — Zidane agreed, but left the room without following through.
Zinédine Zidane made his press conference debut as France manager on Friday, ahead of the match against Turkey in the opening round of the Nations League.
Among the journalists present, a representative from Turkish public broadcaster TRT spoke in an unusual manner. “Thank you for being here Mr Zidane, I am very happy… it is my dream to be in front of you,” he said to the 1998 Ballon d’Or winner, before pulling out a book and asking him for a dedication.
Zidane, unmoved, replied with a slight smile: “Yes, we’ll do that after, no problem.” The journalist then brought up Arda Güler, the attacking midfielder at Real Madrid. “Arda Güler is a great player,” replied Didier Deschamps’ successor simply.
The promise was not kept, however: Zidane left the press room without signing the book in question.
