Yamal and Porro sidelined three days before Spain-Argentina World Cup final
Lamine Yamal, nursing a right thigh injury, and Pedro Porro, troubled by hamstring issues, missed Spain's collective training session Thursday in East Hanover, three days before the 2026 World Cup final against Argentina.
Lamine Yamal and Pedro Porro did not take part in Spain’s collective training session Thursday in East Hanover, New Jersey, three days before the 2026 World Cup final against Argentina. Both players left the semi-final against France (2-0) with physical problems.
The 19-year-old FC Barcelona prospect was spotted with a bandage on his right thigh after the match. While his teammates performed drills, Yamal sat on a gym mat on the sidelines of the session. It remains difficult to determine whether he was simply rested by the coaching staff or whether he is genuinely suffering from the knock received against the French. Runner-up for the 2025 Ballon d’Or, he had played the entire semi-final.
Pedro Porro also presents uncertainties. The Tottenham right-back, substituted before the end of the match against France, is suffering from a “slight hamstring issue”. He too was excused from Thursday’s collective session.
The situation of both players should become clearer over the next 48 hours as the Spanish coaching staff assesses their availability for the tournament’s most important fixture.
