Argentina's Yael Falcon will take charge of Switzerland vs Algeria in the World Cup round of 32 at BC Place in Vancouver. The 37-year-old is officiating his third game of the tournament, having shown just one yellow card in each of his previous two matches.
Argentina’s Yael Falcon has been confirmed as the referee for Switzerland’s World Cup round-of-32 clash against Algeria at BC Place in Vancouver, with kick-off scheduled for 8pm local time (4am UK).
The 37-year-old is appearing at his first World Cup and this will be his third assignment of the tournament. Falcon has overseen two one-sided affairs so far — Sweden’s 5-1 win over Tunisia and Mexico’s 3-0 victory over the Czech Republic — and has shown a restrained approach with the cards, brandishing just one yellow in each of those games.
Assisting Falcon on the lines are Maximiliano Del Yesso and Facundo Rodriguez. Peruvians Kevin Ortega and Michael Orue will serve as fourth official and reserve official respectively inside the stadium.
Argentina’s Hernan Mastrangelo heads the VAR operation, with Mexico’s Erick Miranda and Chile’s Juan Lara providing additional support in the booth.
Switzeland reached this stage by topping Group B ahead of Canada, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Qatar. Algeria advanced as one of the eight best third-placed teams, finishing behind Argentina and Austria in Group J.
The winners of the tie will face either Colombia or Ghana in the round of 16, also at BC Place in Vancouver.
