Williams brings Marvel Avengers livery to Austin Fan Zone ahead of US Grand Prix
Williams will display its Avengers: Doomsday show car at its Fan Zone in downtown Austin from 19 to 24 October, ahead of the United States Grand Prix on the 25th. Alex Albon and team principal James Vowles are both scheduled to appear at the event.
Williams will showcase its Marvel-liveried show car at the team’s Fan Zone in downtown Austin ahead of the United States Grand Prix, though the eye-catching design will remain a display piece rather than take to the Circuit of the Americas.
The car will be on public view at 800 Congress Avenue from 19 to 24 October, the week leading up to the grand prix on the 25th. Driver Alex Albon and team principal James Vowles are both scheduled to make appearances at the venue.
Williams announced the news on Instagram, writing: “You saw it at Comic Con, now see it in our Austin Fan Zone… This special Marvel livery is coming to the show car in the Austin Fan Zone – we can’t wait for you to see it in person!” The post drew nearly 130,000 likes and more than 500 comments, reflecting the level of enthusiasm around the collaboration.
The livery first appeared publicly at New York Comic Con on 8 October, where Williams confirmed its partnership with Marvel timed to coincide with the build-up to Avengers: Doomsday. The Marvel booth featured the same show car alongside superhero-inspired race suits available as fan prizes, and 2,000 special-edition comics with an exclusive cover were also distributed.
The partnership was formalised through Iron Man Racing Towards Doom, a comic book written by Ethan Sacks in which Albon, Sainz and Vowles appear alongside Iron Man, Captain America and Black Widow as they defend the Formula 1 championship against Doctor Doom.
The Austin Fan Zone will also feature COTA simulators, a Zoox autonomous mobility experience, a Komatsu truck simulator, and an Austin Edition of the Marvel comic.
Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled for release on 18 December, with Robert Downey Jr. — who originally portrayed Iron Man — taking on the role of Doctor Doom.
