Will Jordan’s Super Rugby Pacific season is finished after the Crusaders confirmed on Thursday that the All Blacks fullback re-aggravated his calf injury during last Friday’s match against the Chiefs, ruling him out for the remainder of the competition with a 4-6 week recovery timeline.

Jordan had only just returned to the field after six weeks of rehabilitation for the original calf complaint, but he departed the contest after 71 minutes. Coach Rob Penney flagged concern immediately after the match, and the club made it official days later via a social media post stating simply: “2026 has come to an end for Will Jordan.”

The Super Rugby Pacific final is four weeks away, and while the stated timeline does not mathematically eliminate a return, the Crusaders appear determined to protect the 28-year-old given the injury is a re-aggravation following an already lengthy lay-off.

The implications stretch beyond club rugby. The All Blacks’ Nations Championship campaign opens in exactly six weeks — against France at Christchurch’s One New Zealand Stadium — placing Jordan’s availability for that fixture in serious doubt. New Zealand then face Italy in Wellington the following week, and coach Dave Rennie will be hoping Jordan can at least be available for the third Test of the July series against Ireland at Eden Park in Auckland.

Injury has been a recurring theme throughout Jordan’s career despite his status as one of the most clinical finishers in Test rugby. An inner-ear condition that caused migraines and complicated air travel disrupted the early stages of his international career. A shoulder injury then required surgery and cost him the entire 2024 Super Rugby season, and he battled through a knee problem just in time for last year’s playoff run.

With Jordan sidelined, the Crusaders have options in the backfield. Former Wales international Johnny McNicholl filled in during the fullback’s first absence this season, while Chay Fihaki — himself recently returned from injury — can also cover the position.

The Crusaders close out their round-robin schedule this week by hosting the Hurricanes, with the match set to be played in front of a fourth consecutive sell-out crowd at One New Zealand Stadium.
