Wales wing Ellis Mee commits to Scarlets after rapid rise from Championship unknown to Test starter
Ellis Mee, 23, has signed a new deal with the Scarlets after making 43 appearances for the Llanelli region and earning 11 Wales caps since joining from Nottingham in 2024. The wing made his Test debut against Ireland in the 2025 Six Nations and is part of Steve Tandy's Nations Championship squad.
Ellis Mee has committed his future to the Scarlets, signing a new contract with the Llanelli-based region after a remarkable rise from Championship rugby to full Wales international.
The 23-year-old wing arrived at Parc y Scarlets from Nottingham in 2024 as a relative unknown and has since made 43 appearances for the region while earning 11 caps for Wales. He made his Test debut against Ireland in the 2025 Six Nations and has been named in Steve Tandy’s squad for the Nations Championship in November.
“I am delighted to have re-signed with the Scarlets,” said Mee. “Ever since joining the club a couple of seasons ago the boys have been so welcoming, which made the move so much easier for me. The coaching staff have been really good with growing me as a player — I’ve really enjoyed the opportunities I’ve had and have learned a huge amount over the last couple of seasons.”
Mee also pointed to the collective ambition within the squad as a key factor in his decision to stay. “With the young ambitious squad that we have here, I am really looking forward to seeing what we can build in the coming seasons. I really think we’ve got something special in this group of lads and there’s a real belief in what we’re trying to build together.”
Scarlets Director of Rugby Nigel Davies was equally enthusiastic about securing the wing’s signature, highlighting both his physical attributes and his attitude. “He’s got genuine pace, power and an ability to beat defenders. He’s also strong in the air, increasingly effective in his defensive work and is developing a much better understanding of how to influence games, both with and without the ball.”
Davies added that Mee’s trajectory reflects a broader development philosophy at the club. “When Ellis arrived from Nottingham, he had some outstanding natural attributes, but what has impressed me most is his appetite to learn, his willingness to work and the progress he’s continued to make. Developing players who can perform at international level has always been an important part of the Scarlets’ identity and our contribution to Welsh rugby.”
The Director of Rugby also underlined the importance of retention alongside recruitment. “We want to build a competitive Scarlets team, and that means keeping our best young talent, giving them the opportunity to grow together and creating genuine competition for places.”
