Villa Park's North Stand demolished as Aston Villa target 50,000-seat stadium by 2027

Aston Villa have reduced Villa Park's capacity to around 37,000 for the 2026/27 season while the North Stand is rebuilt, with the redeveloped ground set to hold more than 50,000 fans ahead of Euro 2028.

Aston Villa have begun major demolition work on Villa Park’s North Stand, temporarily cutting the stadium’s capacity to approximately 37,000 for the 2026/27 season as part of a redevelopment project that will take the ground beyond 50,000 seats.

The original roof of the North Stand has already been removed, clearing the way for foundation work and the installation of new structural wings that will define the stand’s final shape. The club expects the full redevelopment to be completed before the 2027/28 campaign, with the upgraded venue earmarked to host matches at Euro 2028.

While the North Stand is out of action, Villa’s matchday experience elsewhere in the ground has been overhauled. Almost every seat in the Trinity Road Stand was removed and replaced over the summer to improve comfort, a new press box has been installed, and a new player tunnel is planned for the corner where the Trinity Road Stand will meet the rebuilt North Stand.

The club has also added a premium hospitality suite, ‘The Cross by Tom Sellers’, positioned in the corner between the Holte End and the Trinity Road Stand. The menu has been designed by two-Michelin-starred chef Tom Sellers, targeting the corporate matchday market.

The reduced capacity has practical implications for ticketing. In the Premier League, Villa must still provide a minimum of 3,000 away tickets because the stadium remains above the 30,000 threshold. In the Champions League, however, the requirement drops to five per cent of overall capacity — meaning visiting clubs are entitled to around 1,800 tickets under the current reduced figure.

Villa Park will host its first Champions League fixture of the season when Unai Emery’s side face Turkish club Fenerbahçe on Wednesday, 22 October, with kick-off at 8pm.
