Verstappen ends Singapore GP curse with second consecutive victory at Marina Bay
Max Verstappen claimed his long-awaited first Singapore Grand Prix win on Sunday, converting previous near-misses at Marina Bay into a second straight victory that lifts Red Bull's momentum heading into the United States Grand Prix.
Max Verstappen finally conquered the Marina Bay Street Circuit on Sunday, winning the Singapore Grand Prix for the first time in his career and recording back-to-back victories after his triumph in Malaysia earlier this season.
The four-time world champion had finished second at the circuit in 2018, 2024 and 2025 without ever reaching the top step — a streak that made Singapore one of the few remaining gaps on his résumé. That changed with a composed drive in which Verstappen managed both the soft and medium tyre compounds effectively, despite the medium proving a challenge for the wider field.
“Yeah, it’s taken a while,” Verstappen said after the race. “But I think this race was very good. We had pace when we needed to have it on the soft tyre and on the medium, even though I think the medium tyre for everyone was a bit more of a struggle, but it worked out, so of course very happy to win here.”
The victory closes out a demanding triple-header that began in Baku, where Verstappen finished second, before he secured his first win of the season in Malaysia. A sprint race victory in Singapore set the tone for Sunday’s result, and the momentum now feels tangible inside the Red Bull garage.
“The last few races have been really positive for us and it’s just great to see,” Verstappen added. “We have a lot of motivation in the team to try and deliver even more results. It’s a really good group of people — I really enjoy working with them and hopefully we can have a bit more fun till the end of the year.”
The weekend was not without its complications for Red Bull. Junior driver Isack Hadjar suffered mechanical issues during the sprint race and was forced to start Sunday’s grand prix from the pit lane, failing to contribute points to the team’s constructors’ tally.
With Singapore now ticked off, Verstappen’s only remaining active circuit without a win is the Madring. Red Bull will look to extend their winning run at the United States Grand Prix in Austin.
