Uzbekistan’s Ilgiz Tantashev will take charge of the Algeria vs Austria World Cup group-stage match at Kansas City Stadium, with kick-off set for 10pm EST (3am UK time).

The 42-year-old is among the more experienced officials at this summer’s tournament, having been active since 2008. Tantashev’s most recent high-profile assignment came at the 2024 Olympics, where he refereed the Morocco vs Spain semifinal — a match he was forced to abandon in the 11th minute after a collision with Spanish defender Marc Pubill.

Running the lines will be two fellow Uzbeks, Andrey Tsapenko and Timur Gaynullin. Mexican official Katia Itzel Garcia has been named as fourth official, with compatriot Sandra Ramírez serving as reserve. VAR details are yet to be confirmed.

Both Algeria and Austria retain a realistic path to the knockout stage heading into the fixture. A draw would see each side finish on four points and progress together, while a win for either team would leave the loser dependent on the best third-place results from across the group stage. The match runs simultaneously with the Jordan vs Argentina clash in Dallas, adding further complexity to the qualification picture.

The appointment of Tantashev reflects the depth of officiating experience FIFA has assembled for the competition, with the Uzbek having built a lengthy international résumé over more than 15 years.
