Dalot and Mazraoui both committed to Manchester United right-back battle next season
Diogo Dalot and Noussair Mazraoui are set to compete for Manchester United's right-back spot in 2026/27, with sources close to both players insisting neither wants to leave Old Trafford despite summer transfer activity elsewhere in the squad.
Diogo Dalot and Noussair Mazraoui are both determined to stay and fight for Manchester United’s right-back position next season, with sources close to the pair insisting neither player is seeking an exit from Old Trafford, according to The Sun.
The news effectively rules out a summer signing at right-back for United, despite earlier speculation that manager Michael Carrick could look abroad to reinforce the position. Dalot is heading into his ninth season at the club, while Mazraoui — who managed just 11 starts in a stop-start campaign disrupted by an eight-game injury absence between December and January — is said to be happy in Manchester.
United’s transfer activity this summer has instead been focused on midfield, where Casemiro’s departure following the expiration of his contract has left a significant gap. Ederson, 26, is set to become the club’s first signing of the window, with United paying an initial €40.5 million (£35m) plus €4.5 million (£3.8m) in add-ons for the former Atalanta midfielder. He made his World Cup debut as a substitute in Brazil’s 3-0 win over Haiti and is expected to be unveiled once that campaign concludes.
Ederson is unlikely to be the only midfield arrival. West Ham’s Mateus Fernandes and Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton have been identified as potential targets. Elliot Anderson had also featured on United’s shortlist before Manchester City completed a £116 million deal for the midfielder.
At left-back, United are expected to strengthen, with Crysencio Summerville emerging as a prominent target. The winger, along with Jarrod Bowen, has attracted widespread interest following West Ham’s relegation to the Championship. Lewis Hall of Newcastle United — under contract at St James’ Park until 2029 — is also under consideration, though no concrete offer has yet been made.
On the right flank more broadly, Bryan Mbeumo and Amad provide additional options, giving Carrick a settled right-hand side heading into the new Premier League season.
