UFC parts ways with Thiago Moises after lightweight veteran goes 8-8 in 16 fights
Thiago Moises has been cut from the UFC roster after going 8-8 across 16 fights under the banner. The 31-year-old's final appearance was a split-decision loss to Gauge Young at UFC Winnipeg in April.
Thiago Moises has been released by the UFC, ending a seven-year stint with the promotion that saw the Brazilian lightweight compile an 8-8 record across 16 octagon appearances.
Moises, 31, made his final UFC appearance in April at UFC Winnipeg, where he dropped a split decision to Gauge Young. That result capped a tenure that began with a first-round knockout on Dana White’s Contender Series in 2018 — a performance that earned him his initial contract with the organisation.
Despite a.500 record, Moises leaves with a credible résumé. He finished four of his eight UFC wins, submitting King Green, Christos Giagos and Melquizael Costa among them. He also shared the cage with some of the division’s elite, most notably Islam Makhachev — now a two-division champion — against whom Moises and Arman Tsarukyan remain the only fighters to have secured takedowns in UFC competition.
A former RFA lightweight champion, Moises departs with a professional record of 19-10. The UFC has not ruled out a future re-signing, but as of now he is no longer under contract with the promotion.
