Tottenham answered their critics by crushing Charlton 5-1 in the League Cup on Wednesday, giving Roberto De Zerbi his first win after a disappointing start in the league.
The Italian manager had faced fierce criticism following Spurs’ opening defeat to Brentford in the Premier League (3-0). Against Charlton, a Championship side, his team quickly dispelled doubts with goals from Moore, Solanke, Danso, Savinho and Davies to secure a decisive victory.
This win allows Tottenham to qualify for the round of 16 of the competition. Newcastle also secured their place at the same stage, winning 3-2 against West Bromwich.
