Tottenham Hotspur are closing in on a trio of signings worth up to £240m as Roberto De Zerbi accelerates his squad rebuild after the club finished 17th in the Premier League for the second consecutive season.

Spurs have already secured four additions this summer — Andy Robertson, Marcos Senesi and Martin Dubravka on free transfers, plus £52m centre-back Jan Paul van Hecke from Brighton, reuniting the defender with De Zerbi. Three further high-profile deals are now in advanced stages, which would take total summer spending well beyond £250m.

Sandro Tonali is the most expensive of the trio. The Newcastle United midfielder is reported to have already agreed personal terms with Tottenham, and while an initial £80m bid was rejected, negotiations are understood to be progressing towards a fee in the region of £100m. Arsenal have been linked with Tonali, but reports suggest the Gunners are pivoting towards his Newcastle teammate Bruno Guimaraes, which could leave Spurs with a clearer run at the Italy international.

Mateus Fernandes, the 21-year-old Portuguese midfielder who was relegated with West Ham last season, is described as “very keen” on a move to north London. Spurs are prepared to offer a more attractive contract than Manchester United, who are also pursuing the player, with his fee expected to exceed £80m.

Completing the prospective trio is Manchester City winger Savinho. The Brazilian managed just one Premier League goal last season and is open to leaving the Etihad Stadium, with a deal understood to be advancing at around £60m.

De Zerbi was appointed in late March to replace Igor Tudor and guided Spurs to safety. The Italian coach has moved quickly to reshape the squad in his image, and the club’s hierarchy appears willing to back him with significant investment as they look to avoid a third successive season of Premier League struggle.
