Théo Zidane extends at Cordoba, turning down Liga move to Getafe
The 24-year-old attacking midfielder, son of Zinedine Zidane, has signed a one-year contract extension with Cordoba CF through June 2027, choosing to remain in Spain's second division rather than join Liga side Getafe.
Théo Zidane will remain at Cordoba CF for another season. The Andalusian club officially confirmed on Thursday the contract extension of the French attacking midfielder through 30 June 2027, marking a third consecutive season for Zinedine Zidane’s son in the white and green colours.
The choice is all the more striking given that Théo, whose contract expired on 30 June, was being courted by Getafe, a Spanish top-flight club. He chose to continue his adventure in Liga Adelante (second division) with Cordoba, who finished ninth in the championship last season.
“Théo Zidane will continue to wear the Cordoba CF shirt until 2027, following the agreement reached between the white and green club and the French footballer, who will begin his third consecutive season with the club in LaLiga Hypermotion. At Cordoba CF, we are delighted with Théo’s extension and wish him a new chapter crowned with success in our colours,” the club wrote in its official statement.
Transferred to Cordoba two years ago after being trained at Real Madrid, the 24-year-old is committing to a second-division project, where his older brother Luca has taken a different path: the elder of the siblings has been playing for Getafe in Liga since 2024 — the very club that was pursuing Théo. The two brothers will therefore face each other again in the next Copa del Rey or possible cup matches.
The third Zidane son to pursue a professional career, Elyaz (20 years old), a centre-back, recently left Real Betis to join Red Star in Ligue 2.
