Strasbourg demands €40M for Guéla Doué, too expensive for PSG and Leverkusen

Guéla Doué will not leave Strasbourg on the cheap. RC Strasbourg is demanding €40 million for its 23-year-old right-back, a fee deemed prohibitive by both PSG and Bayer Leverkusen, the two clubs that inquired about the Franco-Ivorian defender this summer.

On the Paris side, interest had been reported a month ago by L’Équipe. Luis Campos was looking for a backup to Achraf Hakimi, especially since Warren Zaïre-Emery has already been filling in at that position since last season. But PSG’s sporting director, who has refused to overpay for several targets in recent months, did not advance on the matter. The lead appears to be at a standstill today.

According to German magazine Kicker, Leverkusen also ran into the same obstacle. The reigning German champions made inquiries, but the €40 million demanded by Strasbourg is also too high a sum — especially since Transfermarkt values the Angers native at €20 million, exactly half the asking price.

Yet placed on the transfer list by his club, Guéla Doué started the season wearing the captain’s armband in Alsace. But his 2025-2026 campaign got off to a bad start: Friday night in Marseille, a 4-0 defeat, he gave away the penalty for the 2-0 goal in the 67th minute by attempting to play the ball out from his own box before fouling Igor Paixao, who had already got past him. An unusual error for a defender with a reputation for reliability over several seasons.

The older brother of Désiré Doué, winger for PSG and the French national team, remains a Strasbourg player for now. The two brothers, very close, were spotted together during the France squad gathering before the World Cup. Désiré would probably have appreciated a family reunion at Parc des Princes — but the price set by Strasbourg decided otherwise.
