Shoulder injury rules Louie Hennessey out of Wales' entire summer series
Bath centre/wing Louie Hennessey has been ruled out of Wales' three-Test summer programme after sustaining a shoulder injury in Bath's Champions Cup semi-final defeat to Bordeaux. The 22-year-old, who made his international debut in this year's Six Nations, will miss July Tests against Fiji, Argentina and South Africa.
Louie Hennessey has been ruled out of Wales’ full summer Test series after the Bath back sustained a shoulder injury during his club’s Champions Cup semi-final defeat to Bordeaux. The 22-year-old will miss consecutive July Tests against Fiji, Argentina and South Africa, with Bath confirming he will undergo treatment on the shoulder in the coming weeks.
The setback is a significant blow for the Cardiff-born player, who fulfilled a long-held ambition when he came off the bench to make his Wales debut against Ireland in the Six Nations in March. Named in Steve Tandy’s squad for the summer series on the back of consistent club performances for Bath, Hennessey now faces a race to return to fitness before the autumn.
Tandy, however, retains several physical midfield options to cover the absence. Uncapped Harlequins centre Bryn Bradley has been backed by his club head coach Jason Gilmore as ready for the international stage, with Gilmore describing him as having all the makings of a “Test match animal.” Max Llewellyn has been finding form for Gloucester, Mason Grady offers versatility across the backline, and Eddie James emerged as one of Wales’ standout performers during the Six Nations campaign.
