Shane Burgos announces MMA return after nearly three years away from competition
UFC and PFL veteran Shane Burgos has signalled his return to MMA after a near three-year absence, citing burnout from weight cuts and training camps as the reason for his extended break. The 35-year-old featherweight last competed in August 2023, losing to Clay Collard under the PFL banner.
Shane Burgos is coming back to MMA, the 35-year-old featherweight announced via Instagram, ending an absence that stretches back to his unanimous decision loss to Clay Collard at a PFL event in August 2023.
“One more run,” Burgos wrote in the post. “I needed that break from fighting. The weight cuts, the training camps, everything that goes into it burned me out. That’s in the past tho. I’ve never stopped working. I need to be back in that fire again. I miss it. Excited for whatever’s next.”
The Team Tiger Schulmann representative made his UFC debut in 2017 and compiled a 6-3 record inside the Las Vegas-based promotion before his contract concluded in 2022. He then signed with the Professional Fighters League, going 1-2 across three bouts before stepping away from the sport entirely.
Over the course of his professional career, which began in 2013, Burgos has built a 16-5 record that includes notable victories over Bill Algeo, Cub Swanson, Billy Quarantillo, and Charles Jourdain. His aggressive, high-output style earned him the nickname “Hurricane” and a reputation as one of the more entertaining fighters on any card he appeared on.
No opponent, promotion, or timeline has been announced for his return.
