Second Hull City player crashes car on same road near training ground within three weeks
Lucas Gourna-Douath became the second Hull City player involved in a road accident on Millhouse Woods Lane in Cottingham after midfielder Sorba Thomas overturned his Land Rover on the same street on 11 September. Humberside Police confirmed no injuries in either incident.
Lucas Gourna-Douath, Hull City’s French summer signing, was involved in a single-vehicle collision on Millhouse Woods Lane in Cottingham on Thursday 1 October, with photographs circulating on social media showing a Mercedes rolled onto its side. Humberside Police confirmed officers and emergency services attended the scene at around 8:30am and that no one was injured.
The incident is the second of its kind on the same narrow residential street in under three weeks. Midfielder Sorba Thomas escaped unharmed on 11 September when his Land Rover overturned onto its roof at the same location, which sits close to the club’s training facility.
Hull City issued a brief statement acknowledging the latest crash: “Hull City is aware of images circulating on social media following a road traffic accident near the club’s training ground and can confirm that no one was harmed in the incident.”
The back-to-back accidents have drawn the attention of local officials. Cottingham councillor Phil Redshaw revealed on Facebook that he had written to the club just days before Thursday’s crash, asking that players be reminded to drive with greater care when approaching the training ground. “I only wrote to the club on Sunday, asking them to remind staff to drive with more care and attention when heading for the training ground!” he wrote.
Off the road, Hull have made a promising return to the Premier League this season. Sergej Jakirovic’s side sit eighth in the table with eight points from their opening five matches, having beaten Manchester United and Ipswich Town before drawing with Aston Villa and Chelsea. Their only defeat came in a 2-1 loss at Newcastle United in the final fixture before the international break, despite a strong finish from the visitors. Hull are scheduled to return to league action against Everton on 11 October.
