FC Metz confirmed Samuel Eto'o's participation in Robert Pirès' gala match on October 6 at Stade Saint-Symphorien. The former Cameroon striker will join Didier Drogba, Franck Ribéry and several members of France's 1998 World Cup-winning squad in the Team Pirès All Stars.
Samuel Eto’o will be in Metz on Tuesday, October 6 for Robert Pirès’ gala match, FC Metz announced on Monday. The former Cameroon striker joins Didier Drogba and Franck Ribéry in the Team Pirès All Stars, which will face a selection of former Metz players at Stade Saint-Symphorien.
Eleven years after his retirement, Robert Pirès returns to the pitch where he began his top-flight career for a gala match with an exceptional lineup. The Team Pirès All Stars will be coached by Aimé Jacquet and Henri Émile, and will bring together several members of France’s team crowned on July 12, 1998: Laurent Blanc, Marcel Desailly, Youri Djorkaeff, Frank Leboeuf, Bixente Lizarazu and Lilian Thuram are notably among the announced participants.
Eto’o, a four-time UEFA Champions League winner with FC Barcelona and Inter Milan, brings an additional African dimension to the event alongside Ivorian Drogba. The Cameroon native, now president of the Cameroon Football Federation, will thus make a return to European pitches to honour the former Arsenal and Villarreal midfielder.
