Saint-Étienne without Le Cardinal and Jaber to host Rodez in Ligue 2
Back from the international break, ASSE welcomes Rodez on Saturday evening in Ligue 2 without captain Julien Le Cardinal, who suffered a muscle injury at Metz, and Mahmoud Jaber, still in recovery.
AS Saint-Étienne approaches Matchday 8 of Ligue 2 with two significant absences: Ian Cathro will be without captain Julien Le Cardinal and Mahmoud Jaber for the home match against Rodez on Saturday evening (20:00) at Geoffroy-Guichard.
Le Cardinal sustained a muscle impact during the trip to Metz, just before the international break. Despite resuming training, the defender is not sufficiently recovered to be included in the squad. “He took a heavy impact on his muscle against Metz. He returned to the pitch, but it’s too tight for this weekend,” Cathro confirmed at Thursday’s press conference.
Jaber participated in the morning collective session, but his return to competition is also postponed. The Scottish manager clarified that Marten Paalberg, who had “45 good opening minutes” in the friendly match against Sion, should continue with the reserve team while awaiting gradual integration into the professional squad.
After three weeks without competitive action, the Greens are looking to return to winning ways against a Rodez side that promises to be a serious test early in the season.
