Rory Hutchinson set to join Northampton's 200-club against Gloucester in Premiership play-off clash
Rory Hutchinson will become the 82nd player in Northampton Saints' history to make 200 appearances for the club when they host Gloucester on 30 May, with a win securing Saints home advantage in the Premiership play-offs.
Rory Hutchinson will reach 200 appearances for Northampton Saints when the Gallagher Premiership side face Gloucester on 30 May, making him the 82nd player to enter the club’s exclusive double-century bracket. The Scottish centre, who has been at Franklin’s Gardens since his debut in 2015, is now the longest-serving member of the current squad.
Hutchinson partners Tom Litchfield in midfield for a Saints side that is otherwise unchanged from last weekend’s record-breaking 94-33 demolition of Bristol Bears, in which fly-half Fin Smith posted a season-high 24 points. The result against Gloucester carries significant weight beyond the milestone: Northampton won the reverse fixture 37-35 at Kingsholm earlier this season, and a second victory over the Cherry and Whites would secure home advantage in the play-offs.
George Furbank captains the side from full-back, with Tommy Freeman and George Hendy on the wings. Freeman arrives in strong form, sitting second in the Premiership for tries scored with 15 and first for initial breaks with 32. Archie McParland continues at scrum-half in the absence of Alex Mitchell, who suffered a fresh injury during an England alignment camp last week — his second similar setback in under three months after a Six Nations injury against Ireland in February.
The only change to the starting XV comes in the front row, where Luke Green comes in at tight-head prop, with Emmanuel Iyogun and Robbie Smith retained at loose-head and hooker. Alex Coles and Ed Prowse continue their lock partnership, while Tom Pearson joins Henry Pollock and Callum Chick in the back row.
Northampton Saints: 15 George Furbank (c), 14 Tommy Freeman, 13 Tom Litchfield, 12 Rory Hutchinson, 11 George Hendy, 10 Fin Smith, 9 Archie McParland, 1 Emmanuel Iyogun, 2 Robbie Smith, 3 Luke Green, 4 Alex Coles, 5 Ed Prowse, 6 Tom Pearson, 7 Henry Pollock, 8 Callum Chick.
Replacements: 16 Craig Wright, 17 Danilo Fischetti, 18 Elliot Millar Mills, 19 Tom Lockett, 20 Sam Graham, 21 Jonny Weimann, 22 Fraser Dingwall, 23 James Ramm.
