Red Bull confirms Hadjar alongside Verstappen for 2027 after impressive debut season

Red Bull has confirmed that Isack Hadjar will remain alongside Max Verstappen for the 2027 Formula 1 season, extending the French driver’s stay at the Milton Keynes outfit after just one year in the senior seat. The announcement comes ahead of the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, where Hadjar is set to make his return following a three-race absence through injury.

Hadjar joined Red Bull for 2026 after a rookie campaign at sister team Racing Bulls, stepping into one of the most scrutinised seats on the grid. The second Red Bull berth has historically proven a difficult environment for drivers, but the 20-year-old has drawn praise for his speed and his integration within the team.

Red Bull team boss Laurent Mekies cited Hadjar’s attitude and work ethic as key factors in the decision to extend his contract. “We’re very excited to continue our journey with Isack,” Mekies said. “Since joining us at the start of the year, he has been superb on and off track, especially considering this is only his second Formula 1 season, which made extending his contract an easy decision.”

Mekies also highlighted the composure Hadjar showed from the opening round of the season. “From the very beginning, Isack immersed himself in the team, spending every minute at the factory with his engineers to develop the car, always eager to learn and improve. You could see from that first weekend in Melbourne that he handled the step up with remarkable composure and had earned his place in this seat.”

The confirmation means Red Bull heads into 2027 with a settled driver pairing. Verstappen, a four-time world champion, recently signed a contract extension through to 2030, giving the team long-term certainty around its lead driver. Hadjar’s renewal now locks in the full line-up on both sides of the garage well in advance of the new season.
