Real Madrid deny any interest in signing Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez
Real Madrid have issued a formal statement categorically denying reports linking them with a move for Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez, insisting the club has made no direct or indirect effort to sign him.
Real Madrid have publicly and emphatically denied any interest in signing Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez, releasing an official statement on the club’s website to dismiss reports that the Spanish giants were in talks over a summer transfer.
In the statement, Real Madrid said: “In light of the reports and statements that have appeared in recent days regarding an alleged interest from Real Madrid CF in the player Enzo Fernández, the club wishes to state that it has not made any effort, either direct or indirect, to sign the aforementioned player and, likewise, has no intention of undertaking such an operation.”
The club went further, invoking its institutional relationship with Chelsea as part of its reasoning for going public. “Real Madrid wishes to express its utmost respect for Enzo Fernández, a great footballer whose career and quality are widely known, as well as for Chelsea FC, a club with which it maintains an excellent institutional relationship,” the statement read.
Real Madrid also expressed frustration that speculation had persisted despite the absence of any action on their part. “Real Madrid regrets that, despite the clarity of the facts and the lack of any action on the part of the club, information continues to be disseminated that does not correspond to reality and that only contributes to generating confusion among fans and unnecessarily harming the entities and people involved.”
The unusually direct public denial is a notable step for a club of Real Madrid’s stature, which rarely comments on transfer speculation. The statement suggests the reports had reached a level of prominence that the club felt compelled to address formally.
Fernandez, who joined Chelsea from Benfica in January 2023 for a reported British-record fee of around £107 million, has been a central figure at Stamford Bridge despite the club’s turbulent recent seasons. Whether other clubs retain interest in the Argentina international this summer remains to be seen.
