Rashford set to return for United pre-season as club shapes third midfield signing
Marcus Rashford is expected to report for Manchester United's pre-season after a post-World Cup break, with positive talks easing uncertainty over his future. United have already signed Andrey Santos, Youri Tielemans and a goalkeeper this window, and are targeting a third midfielder.
Marcus Rashford is on course to return to Manchester United for pre-season training following a break after the World Cup, with the club relaxed about his comeback after what are described as positive talks between the two parties.
United manager Michael Carrick — who played alongside Rashford, coached him and briefly managed him — indicated in April that the door remained open for the forward’s return. With England now eliminated from the World Cup, albeit with a third-place match still to play, Rashford is a step closer to resolving his future. The winger had previously stated he would not address the situation until after the tournament.
Should Rashford ultimately leave Old Trafford, West Ham’s Crysencio Summerville has emerged as a monitored option. The Dutch winger impressed at the World Cup and could be available following West Ham’s relegation from the Premier League.
United have already moved quickly in the transfer window, completing the midfield signings of Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans, as well as adding a goalkeeper. The club is now targeting a third midfielder before the window closes and is in a position to pursue a high-quality player, though sources indicate United will not overspend simply to fill the role — the signing must be available for what the club considers a fair fee.
Bournemouth’s Alex Scott and Borussia Dortmund’s Felix Nmecha are among the names on United’s radar, with Roma’s Manu Kone also linked to a move to Old Trafford.
In attack, United are weighing up a striker signing to provide support for Benjamin Sesko, who is currently the squad’s only recognised centre-forward. However, the club would not commit significant funds to a backup option in that position.
Several departures are also anticipated before the window shuts. Goalkeeper Altay Bayindir is set to leave, while the future of Joshua Zirkzee remains uncertain. Midfielder Toby Collyer will receive clarity on his own situation once United finalise their midfield recruitment.
