Rashford rules out future decision during World Cup as United target Summerville
Marcus Rashford has confirmed he will delay any decision on his Manchester United future until after the World Cup, while the club are reportedly pursuing West Ham winger Crysencio Summerville as their primary wide target this summer.
Marcus Rashford has ruled out making any decision on his Manchester United future until after the World Cup, leaving his long-term situation unresolved after Barcelona declined to trigger their £26 million purchase option earlier this summer.
“I was very clear with everyone involved before the World Cup, I wanted it done before,” Rashford said. “If it’s not, I wanted it to wait until after. I want to be fully present in the moment. We’re fighting for something special.”
The England forward earned his place in Thomas Tuchel’s squad after contributing 14 goals and 14 assists during his loan spell at Barcelona. He is currently expected to return to United for pre-season once the tournament concludes, though his long-term future at Old Trafford remains unclear.
With Rashford’s situation unresolved, United manager Michael Carrick is actively seeking wide reinforcements. West Ham’s Crysencio Summerville has emerged as the club’s primary target on the left flank, according to reports, with United having already held exploratory discussions over a potential deal. The 24-year-old Dutch winger has been valued at £50 million and attracted interest from other Premier League clubs, meaning United face competition for his signature.
Summerville impressed for West Ham last season despite the club’s relegation from the Premier League, and also made an impact on the international stage with the Netherlands at the World Cup before they were eliminated by Morocco on penalties in the round of 32.
In midfield, Brazilian Ederson from Atalanta has virtually completed his move to United as the club looks to address the departure of Casemiro. Further midfield additions are expected, though United have already missed out on some targets — including Mateus Fernandes, who opted to join a Premier League rival.
Carrick, who relied on Patrick Dorgu and Matheus Cunha as his left-sided options last season, is preparing United for a return to the Champions League and is looking to strengthen across multiple positions to compete across all competitions.
