Marcus Rashford broke a prolonged public silence on Tuesday, speaking to fans in the Ambassadors’ Lounge at Old Trafford before Manchester United’s Champions League fixture against Roma — his first public appearance since returning from a loan spell at Barcelona that did not lead to a permanent move.

Rashford was unavailable for selection, sidelined by hip and thigh injuries for a fourth consecutive game under manager Michael Carrick. His absence from the squad left him free to take part in a live Q&A as part of United’s premium hospitality package, a matchday experience priced at around £2,500 that includes seating one row behind the dugout, a five-course dining menu and behind-the-scenes access.

The 29-year-old appeared relaxed throughout the session, which was led by a host before questions were opened to the floor. He reflected on his 138 goals for the club, saying he remembers every one of them despite keeping no personal record. “I expected my United career to go differently to how it did,” Rashford said. “Initially I wanted to try and get as close as possible to Wazza’s record, but it’s not the way it worked out — but I definitely remember the goals I scored.”

Rashford also recalled the moment his life changed with a debut brace against Arsenal at Old Trafford, describing the aftermath as something he still struggles to put into words. “The month before those games, I could still go to the arcade at the Trafford Centre with my friends after the cinema,” he said. “The next time we tried to go after that, it was just impossible.”

The Q&A marks a notable moment for a player who has done limited media work in recent years. His return to United this season followed Barcelona’s decision not to exercise a permanent option after his loan, and he has yet to feature under Carrick as he works his way back to fitness.
