QSI completes takeover of KAS Eupen and expands football empire in Belgium

Qatar Sports Investments (QSI) is now the sole owner of KAS Eupen, a Belgian second-division club, after officially completing the full acquisition of the club on Thursday. The investment company led by the Qatari government had already been managing Eupen’s sporting operations since December 2025.

“QSI is pleased to announce that the acquisition of KAS Eupen has been finalized,” the official statement reads. QSI and the previous management claim to have “worked in close collaboration to establish solid foundations for the long-term sporting and economic development of the club,” notably by strengthening the first-team squad, continuing to promote young talent, and forging new commercial partnerships.

Eupen is no stranger to the Qatari sphere: the club had already benefited from Qatari support since 2012, similar to Sporting de Braga in Portugal, which entered QSI’s orbit in 2022. Relegated from Belgian top flight in 2024, the club aims to return to the Pro League as early as next season. QSI promises that KAS Eupen “will continue to rely on its unique identity as the only professional football club in Belgium’s German-speaking community, while remaining closely linked to its supporters, partners, and regional stakeholders.”

This acquisition confirms QSI’s appetite for European football at a time when other Gulf powers, facing geopolitical and budgetary constraints, are beginning to reassess their sporting ambitions.
