PSG Target Julian Alvarez for €150M Winter Transfer

Paris Saint-Germain has made Julian Alvarez its offensive priority for the January transfer window, according to Spanish media El Nacional. Luis Enrique has personally asked sporting director Luis Campos to move for the 26-year-old Argentine international, who is under contract with Atlético Madrid.

PSG’s interest in offensive reinforcement is not new. During the final hours of the summer transfer window, the Paris club attempted to sign an attacking player whose identity was not revealed, without success. The Alvarez path follows on from this search.

The striker himself reportedly wanted to leave Atlético Madrid last summer to join FC Barcelona, a departure that ultimately did not materialize. Still according to El Nacional, he would retain the intention to leave as soon as possible, and Paris would represent a destination that could suit him.

The deal promises to be complex both financially and competitively. Alvarez’s release clause is set at €150 million, a figure that constitutes the floor price for any negotiation. Arsenal, which had already tried its luck on the final day of the summer transfer window, would remain in the race. Barcelona, for its part, would not have given up on recruiting the player it coveted last summer.

A former Manchester City player with whom he won the UEFA Champions League in 2023, Alvarez joined Atlético Madrid in summer 2024 for approximately €75 million. Seeing him change clubs six months later for double that sum would constitute one of the most expensive transfers in football history.
