PSG-OL threatened with postponement: Paris police prefecture pressures LFP
The PSG-OL clash in Matchday 8 of Ligue 1, scheduled for Sunday evening at Parc des Princes, could be postponed to Monday due to a day of social mobilization planned in the capital on Saturday.
The PSG-OL match on Sunday evening could be played on a different date than planned. The Paris Police Prefecture has sent a letter to the Professional Football League (LFP) to determine its position on a possible postponement of the match, due to a day of mobilization announced for Saturday that could require significant deployment of law enforcement.
According to L’Équipe’s information, the LFP has not modified its schedule at this stage, preferring to defer to the judgment of public authorities. The League says it is nonetheless ready to approve a postponement if the Prefecture were to make an official request. In that case, Article 528 of the LFP competition regulations would allow the match to be rescheduled as early as Monday evening.
A precedent exists: a year ago, the OM-PSG classic was delayed by 24 hours due to bad weather in Marseille, coinciding with the Ballon d’Or ceremony and notably depriving Paris of Ousmane Dembélé at the Vélodrome.
Another concrete indication in favor of a postponement: the LFP reportedly proposed to OM to host Le Havre on Sunday no longer at 17:15 but at 20:45, the time slot originally reserved for PSG-OL. This calendar shift supports the theory of a Paris-Lyon match moved to Monday evening, even though no official decision had been made at the time of writing this article.
