Pogba leaves AS Monaco after just one year and 115 minutes of play
AS Monaco and Paul Pogba have terminated their contract by mutual agreement, one year after the 2018 World Cup winner signed. Hampered by injuries, the midfielder played only 115 minutes in the AS Monaco shirt.
Paul Pogba leaves AS Monaco after just one year, with the Principality club officially confirming the termination of his contract on Wednesday morning. The midfielder, who was tied to the club until June 2027, played only 115 minutes during the past season.
“Acknowledging that the initially set objectives were only partially achieved, AS Monaco and Paul Pogba have chosen, ahead of the first official match of this new season, to end the contract binding them until June 2027,” the club stated in its official statement.
Pogba had joined Monaco with the ambition of reviving a career seriously compromised by a doping suspension, which had hastened his departure from Juventus in 2023. Despite his return to the pitch, the 2018 World Cup champion never managed to rediscover his best form, hampered by fresh physical setbacks. His 115 minutes of play over the entire season alone sum up the extent of his difficulties.
AS Monaco took the opportunity to pay tribute to the player nicknamed “The Pickaxe” during his time on the Rock. “The Club expresses its full gratitude to the 2018 World Cup champion for his trust and for the extreme professionalism he demonstrated throughout his AS Monaco adventure,” the club added.
For his part, Pogba thanked the institution in a statement transmitted by the club: “I want to thank the President and the board, my teammates, all the staff and all the supporters who believed in me. Representing this Club and the Principality was an incredible experience. AS Monaco is an exceptional club and, even though I did not play as many matches as I hoped, I will always remain grateful for the opportunity to wear its colors.”
At 32 years old, the former Manchester United and Juventus midfielder finds himself without a club once again, searching for a team capable of offering him the playing time necessary to definitively revive his career.
