Ospreys sign Waratahs fly-half Lawson Creighton as Australian recruitment drive reaches four
The Ospreys have confirmed Lawson Creighton as their fourth signing ahead of the 2026-27 season, with the NSW Waratahs fly-half joining as cover for Wales international Dan Edwards.
The Ospreys have added a fourth player ahead of the 2026-27 season, confirming the signing of fly-half Lawson Creighton from NSW Waratahs — their third recruit with Australian connections in the current window.
Creighton, 6‘1”, began his Super Rugby career with the Queensland Reds, making his debut in 2021, before moving to the Waratahs four years later. He made 26 appearances for the Sydney-based side and can also operate at centre and full-back, giving the Ospreys useful versatility in the backline.
Head coach Mark Jones identified the position as a priority following the departure of Walsh and with Dan Edwards regularly away on Wales international duty. “Lawson is a talented fly-half that can dictate the speed of the game and his versatility is something that will be invaluable for us this season,” Jones said. “We feel Lawson’s experience in Super Rugby will be hugely beneficial to our younger backline players and will help them take their game to the next level.”
Creighton said the prospect of competing in the URC and working within Jones’s development-focused environment was a key draw. “This is a great opportunity for me to test myself in the URC and to join a team with a strong reputation of developing top quality international players,” he said. “When I spoke to Mark, he was very clear about the project they’re trying to build and where I fit into that.”
The signing follows the arrivals of Wallabies flanker Liam Wright, centre Lalakai Foketi, and Exeter prop Dan John, underlining the Welsh region’s deliberate strategy of targeting players with Super Rugby pedigree as they look to strengthen their squad for next season.
