Nico O’Reilly and Jeremy Doku are set to miss Manchester City’s Champions League opener at FC Porto on Tuesday, after both players were absent from the club’s open training session at the CFA on Monday.

O’Reilly, 21, sustained a back problem during the warm-up before City’s 1-0 Premier League win over Coventry City at the weekend and did not start that match. The injury now looks likely to rule him out of the trip to Portugal, with the Manchester derby at Old Trafford to follow on Sunday.

Doku was also absent from the training group, giving Pep Guardiola — wait, the source names Enzo Maresca — further cause for concern on the wing ahead of the Porto fixture. The Belgian winger’s absence was not accompanied by any official explanation from the club.

There was more encouraging news elsewhere in the session. Allan took part in full training after missing the Coventry game and could make his City debut in Portugal. Matheus Nunes was also involved, having been an unused substitute against Frank Lampard’s side.

The remainder of City’s first-team squad trained normally. Ryan McAidoo was included in the group, though Floyd Samba and Kaden Braithwaite were not present. Young goalkeeper Jack Wint trained alongside Gianluigi Donnarumma, Marcus Bettinelli, and Gerónimo Rulli as the only academy player involved in the session.

City head into the tie with a 100 per cent winning start to the Premier League season, with Enzo Fernandez — the club’s record signing — having stepped in for O’Reilly and played a part in the narrow victory over Coventry.
