Oliveira spams UFC 329 livestream comments to demand Gaethje lightweight title shot
Charles Oliveira took an unconventional approach to calling his shot at UFC 329, flooding the post-fight press conference comments with 'Charles vs Justin' as Max Holloway also lobbied for a crack at lightweight champion Justin Gaethje.
Charles Oliveira made his lightweight title ambitions impossible to ignore at UFC 329 on Saturday in Las Vegas, repeatedly spamming the post-fight press conference comments section with “Charles vs Justin” as he campaigned for a shot at current UFC lightweight champion Justin Gaethje.
Oliveira was in attendance to watch Conor McGregor’s return to the octagon after five years away, only for the night to end abruptly when McGregor injured his knee on his first kick against Max Holloway, prompting the referee to stop the contest just over a minute into round one.
The anticlimactic finish left the lightweight division’s title picture murkier than expected. Holloway had been eyeing a shot at Gaethje contingent on beating McGregor, and despite the unsatisfying ending he still made his case at the post-fight press conference. Oliveira, watching from the crowd, chose a more unorthodox route — flooding the comments of the presser broadcast with the same message over and over.
Oliveira (37-11) has a compelling case to make. He submitted Gaethje in the first round back in 2022 and arrives in strong form after a dominant decision victory over Holloway in a BMF title fight this past March — the same Holloway who now stands as his rival for the next lightweight title shot.
With both men pressing their claims after UFC 329, the UFC faces a genuine selection dilemma at 155 pounds. Oliveira’s social media campaign, unconventional as it was, ensures his name stays front and centre in that conversation.
