Osmanli earns UFC debut at Saudi Arabia card despite controversial TUF 34 disqualification
Mehemmedali Osmanli will make his UFC debut against undefeated Pavel Andrusca at UFC Saudi Arabia on 5 December in Riyadh, despite suffering a disputed disqualification loss in the TUF 34 bantamweight final in September.
Mehemmedali Osmanli has reportedly secured his UFC debut against Pavel Andrusca in a bantamweight bout at UFC Saudi Arabia on 5 December in Riyadh, according to reporter Nolan King — a booking that comes just weeks after Osmanli lost the TUF 34 final under contentious circumstances.
Osmanli (11-2) fell to Ilimbek Akylbek Uulu in the TUF 34 bantamweight final this past September via disqualification after landing an illegal knee to Uulu’s head while the latter was grounded. The finish was immediately clouded by controversy: Uulu initially appeared to be defending himself before going limp the moment the referee stepped in, prompting widespread debate over whether the stoppage was warranted.
Despite the blemish on his record, Osmanli’s broader résumé made him an attractive prospect. The fighter had been riding a nine-fight win streak heading into the TUF final and has finished nine of his 11 career victories, underlining the finishing ability that likely convinced the UFC to move forward with his signing regardless of the result.
His opponent, Andrusca (9-0), is equally untested at the highest level but has already made a strong first impression. The undefeated Moldovan stepped in on short notice to defeat Nathaniel Wood via unanimous decision in his UFC debut in September, doing so at featherweight. He will return to his natural bantamweight division for this second Octagon appearance. Andrusca has finished seven of his nine professional fights, making this a meeting of two finishers with plenty to prove.
The bout represents an intriguing crossroads matchup: Osmanli arrives with the momentum of a deep TUF run and a reputation as a finisher, while Andrusca brings a perfect record and the confidence of a debut win over an established name in Wood. UFC Saudi Arabia on 5 December in Riyadh shapes up as a meaningful proving ground for both bantamweights.
