Neymar is now worth only €8 million according to Transfermarkt, a dramatic fall from the €50 million valuation still listed in October 2023, when he ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee. At 34 years old, the Brazilian has accumulated injuries and has not worn the Seleção shirt for nearly three years.

Currently undergoing rehabilitation with Santos, the striker is expected to miss the entire group stage of the 2026 World Cup, where Brazil begins play against Morocco in the early hours of Sunday morning. Even a return to form during the tournament would likely not be enough to significantly improve his market value.

Yet Neymar still holds the record for the most expensive transfer in football history. In 2017, Paris Saint-Germain activated his release clause of €222 million to sign him from FC Barcelona — a sum that has never been matched since.

Today, the two most valuable players in the world are Lamine Yamal and Erling Haaland, both competing in the 2026 World Cup, each valued at €200 million. Kylian Mbappé completes the podium with a market value of €180 million.
