Neville and Wright clash over Arsenal and Chelsea forward lines ahead of Premier League showdown

Gary Neville and Ian Wright traded sharp words over the quality of Arsenal’s and Chelsea’s forward lines ahead of Sunday’s Premier League clash at the Emirates Stadium, where both sides carry 100 percent records into the match.

Neville opened the debate by arguing that Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta would willingly exchange his attacking options for Chelsea’s, pointing to Morgan Rogers, Cole Palmer and Joao Pedro as a combination he believes Arteta would prefer over Bukayo Saka, Kai Havertz and Ebere Eze.

“If you say to Mikel Arteta: ‘Would you swap your forward line for Chelsea’s?’ He would swap,” Neville said. “He’d put Rogers, Cole Palmer and Joao Pedro up there in front of Saka, Havertz and Eze, he would. So it’s not the strongest part of Arsenal’s team, but what he’s done in defence and in midfield has become that good. If you don’t concede goals, you’ve got a great chance of winning nearly every single match.”

Wright, a former Arsenal striker, was having none of it. “I’m not having that over Saka, Havertz and Eze. I’m not having that,” he said. When Neville pressed him — asking whether Arteta would not choose Rogers, Palmer and Pedro over those three — Wright replied simply: “Not for me, no.” Neville closed the exchange with a dry “Oh dear.”

Arsenal arrived at the fixture having beaten Coventry City and Aston Villa in their opening two Premier League games, while Chelsea recorded wins over Fulham and Brighton. Xabi Alonso’s Chelsea side have bolstered their attacking depth considerably ahead of the deadline, adding Geovany Quenda, Danny Welbeck, Emmanuel Emegha and Dastan Satpaev alongside Rogers.

Arsenal also moved in the transfer market this summer, signing Christos Tzolis, though the club sanctioned the departures of Leandro Trossard, Gabriel Martinelli and Gabriel Jesus — a reshaped front line that clearly sits at the heart of the debate between the two pundits.
