Nantes supporters banned from traveling to Geoffroy-Guichard for Ligue 2 derby
The Loire prefecture has issued an order prohibiting FC Nantes supporters from attending the match against AS Saint-Etienne on Saturday during the 10th round of Ligue 2 at Geoffroy-Guichard.
Nantes supporters will not be able to travel to Geoffroy-Guichard on Saturday for the 10th round of Ligue 2 against AS Saint-Etienne. The Loire prefecture has issued a ban targeting Canaries fans, depriving the fixture of some of its appeal.
In its order, the prefecture cites several incidents between supporter groups of the two clubs, notably between ultras, that occurred between 2013 and 2024. The decision is also motivated by violence observed during a demonstration on October 17, and by the risk of a “second act” on Saturday the 24th, the day of the match, likely to mobilize law enforcement.
This measure is part of a recurring trend in French football, where supporter travel bans are multiplying for security reasons.
Sportively, the match also loses some of its top-of-the-table appeal: while Saint-Etienne sits at the top of the standings with 22 points, Nantes is in 14th place with only 8 points.
According to Le Progrès, ASSE could put the visiting section seats up for sale to its own supporters, a practice already used during the match against Montpellier.
