Nantes sinks in Ligue 2 after home defeat to Dunkerque
FC Nantes suffered a 2-3 home defeat to Dunkerque in Matchday 9 of Ligue 2, slipping to 14th place with just one point above the relegation zone.
FC Nantes suffered another setback on Saturday at the Beaujoire, losing 2-3 to Dunkerque in Matchday 9 of Ligue 2. The Canaries had opened the scoring, but the visitors turned the match around and left with all three points.
This defeat comes at the worst possible time for Grégory Poirier, whose team has been disappointing after a goalless draw against Reims the previous week. Nantes, who were supposed to capitalize on two consecutive home matches following the international break to build confidence, left the Beaujoire empty-handed from this double fixture.
The standings tell the story immediately: the Nantes side now sit in 14th place, with only one point separating them from the relegation zone. The club, a historic member of the top flight, finds itself in an alarming situation at the start of the second part of the first third of the season.
Meanwhile, FC Metz managed to respond to their own struggles. Also lacking victories over the past three matchdays, the Grenats dominated Sochaux 3-2 to return to winning ways. This result propels Metz to 7th place, just two points behind the playoff spots for promotion.
