Mourinho stuns with praise for Camavinga after Real's rout of Malaga
Starting against Malaga (4-0) in Liga Matchday 3, Eduardo Camavinga delivered a convincing performance that drew praise from José Mourinho in his post-match press conference.
Eduardo Camavinga signed off his best performance of the season on Sunday during Real Madrid’s 4-0 victory over Malaga in Liga Matchday 3 — and his manager José Mourinho made no secret of his enthusiasm at the press conference microphone.
Starting alongside Federico Valverde in Madrid’s midfield, the French midfielder showed a far more convincing face than during pre-season, weighing in both defensively and offensively. While not directly decisive in the goals from Jude Bellingham (19th), Kylian Mbappé (30th) and Arda Güler (90+1), he clearly made an impression on his manager.
“There’s a boy who isn’t very appreciated either who had a great match today: Camavinga,” Mourinho said after the match. “I’m very pleased with the response he gave,” he added, in what appears to be a message aimed at the player’s detractors.
These words come at a timely moment for the French international with 29 caps, who has faced heavy criticism after a disappointing second half of last season and was tipped to leave the club this summer. This solid performance against Malaga could mark a turning point in his revival within a Real Madrid squad preparing to compete in both La Liga and the UEFA Champions League.
